Epic Day on Stripers

Epic Day on Stripers

The striper bite has been OK but not hot. We got a tip to try an old spot we haven't fished in several years. So this morning we got there at 5 AM. first cast -- Bam. Striper on. then my son made a cast and hooked up too. for the next 2 hours we had either a striper or a tailor sized blue on. when we quit at 6:45 we had boated 12 bass and 12 blues. Since the hook up ratio was about 2 out of 3 we had about 36 to 40 fish take a swing at the plugs in less than 2 hours.

Son Dave even had a keeper at 29".

So we figured we'd try again tonight. Pretty much the same result except they wouldn't hit top water plugs and Crystal Minnows were the ticket. Added another dozen bass to the count but only a few toothy critters. No keepers but some nice fish with shoulders.

We'll be back out in the morning but I wouldn't be surprised if those fish don't make fools of us and go elsewhere. Bass have a way of puncturing our hubris.
My biggest fear is that when I die my wife will sell my guns and fishing rods for what I told her I paid for them.
