Longbeard, yes I did get my first and second blue goose with Frank as a hunting companion. Don't know what that has do do with this. But we simply got together, sometimes with others, for the days of going for snows. We share the expense and effort of the spread. He picked the field we were on. Was it his doing that we hunted together there, no doubt about it! My 3-17 post says I was hunting with him. All the credit in the world to him that we got the shots there.
Let me address some of the other remarks posted. I just pulled the gear out of my vest. There's 28 calls in there. 8 mouth calls of 3-5 reed designs, 7 friction calls, 4 push box calls (wooden & plastic sets), 6 box and paddle calls, and three different shaker gobbler calls of different pitch. A bit much, yeah, in reality it probably is. But their there if I feel I need it. That's just me.
Mileage involved with scouting/hunting. Going down south is a cut and dry 210-220 mile straight run round trip. Throw in the miles looking around, my days are 275-300 mile days. Do that 10 times in the month pre-season and 10 during the season to hunt... Simple math lesson, 275 minimum x 20 trips is 5,500 miles for going there. My zone 11 locations are a 60 mile straight run round trip. Those days are 90-100 mile days. Do that a minimum of 15 days in the two months, that's another 1,500 miles. Very easy to run around 7,000 miles for these birds.
When I worked I would take off a month for turkey season with vacation and comp time. Now retired the past 3 years, I have virtually all the time I want for effective scouting and doing it. Just like someone looking for and patterning big bucks, alot of time, effort , and dedication is involved. It's not simply a Sunday morning drive before the season and expect results. Keeping track of the information you aquire is a definite plus as to be able to put together "what should happen" out there.
Never said I didn't know Frank that well. Said I didn't know him that long.
I probably put in more effort than a lot of guys to put myself in the best position for the best birds I can locate and hunt. A serious effort to get on serious birds. You don't accomplish that in a day. Hunting turkeys is a passion and I enjoy it emensely. It's a shame that some others can't appreciate that kind of dedication to a great sport instead of bashing someone with that level of commitment.

Ol' timer, just saw your post. That's not the bird. His post shows simply April 1. That was simply a good bird. He's not even saying that "that" bird is the record bird l shot a few years ago. He posted that it would be a record bird for weight. Yes, it would qualify as a ranking in the books somewhere but not #1. An 18 lb bird would qualify as a "record" if you enter it. Not at the top of the list but none the less a record on the list somewhere. Vitually any bird you shoot is a "record" if you want it to be. Again, your reading into what your reading and buying into advertising.

Here we go again. I don't think there is enough Popcorn for this Turkey season. I thought this site was for Hunting and fishing not this soap opera. You got io admit It is entertaining. Well good luck to the guys that enjoy hunting and teaching the sport to the future young hunters. I enjoyed being part of the youth day hunts put on by the Tri-County Long Beards and seeing the faces of the kids was great. This is where we should be focusing on the future generations. Hey can't we all just get along.

Phillyarcher many of us have R3 as #1 focus for the future. But c'mon we have all been hitting the Turkeywoods hard and TH50 has given us an opportunity to poke some fun. I mean he put his heart into his posts and deserves some attention. Hell i hope he will join the flock on working on R3 and Conservation.
